Guest blogger Kamau Jackson highlights Jesse Torres, CEO of Pan AM Bank and social media master Ramon DeLeon, who was recently featured in Fast Company.

Wow, it's been a busy summer! Hope everyone had as great a time as I did. I might have over-indulged in summer fiestas and water sports. In Chicago we tend to do that-- it's like overcompensation for enduring winter. But now I want to share a few things some of you might have missed...

Jesse Torres, CEO of Pan American Bank, Named Indie Banker of the Month
Ellen Perlman wrote a great article, "Servicio en Espanol", featuring Jesse Torres, president and CEO of Pan American Bank. Mr. Torres was .named Indie Banker of the Month in September's ICBA Independent Banker magazine. Pan American is California's oldest Latino owned bank. Mr. Torres, 42, has only headed the East Los Angeles based bank for a little over a year-- yet has already delivered a list of impressive accomplishments.

For starters, Ms. Perlman notes that in the heat of the recession "Pan American modified 100% of the loans held by people who asked for relief--despite the cost. None of those loans has become seriously delinquent again… In 2008 Pan-American only made one foreclosure, and in 2009 it made none."

"There's no point kicking people out of their homes when the bank's goals include transforming the community", Mr. Torres said. And now, to reach out to a new generation, Pan-American has also begun a financial literacy program for students, and is already going forward with plans to open 14,000 student accounts.

I don't want to give all the "goodies" away-- just right-click here to download the magazine in PDF format. (Beautiful photo spread too!)

Ramon DeLeon Featured In Fast Company
Last May (2010) I talked about social media master Ramon DeLeon-- "the pizza guy to know in Chicago”. If you missed the 2-part article and videos, you can find them here. Now you can learn even more thanks to the Fast Company (09.01.10) series "It's Not About the Pizza and 7 Other Social Media Insights” written by Drew Neisser.

Mr. Neisser drills down further on the lessons that companies can learn from Ramon's social media accomplishments, and offers insightful bite-sized pointers to help you achieve your own social media success. With key topics like:
• Have Fun and Keep it Real
• It's About Connecting With the Customer
• Make Deposits in the "Good Will Bank"

His article should help everyone who's trying to establishing their own social media presence.

With Q4 in full swing, and year-end holiday sales on the horizon (what, you haven't started yet?), building an effective social media strategy should be high on your agenda. You can read the Fast Company feature here
(Part 2 of 2).

What Do You Think About Culturally Relevant Web Content?
"Que Rica Vida, General Mills' Spanish-language website, aims to serve its audience as a trusted friend and resource by providing culturally relevant content that can help moms adjust to their new lives. The site aims to empower Latina moms by providing them with information about raising their children, tending to their illnesses and preventing them, making sure they don't fall behind in school and cooking for their families."

What you just read is an except from Joe Kutchera’s blog post "The New Brand Marketing = Content Online"
for Engage:Hispanics. With the drive by major corporations to serve multicultural markets, what do you think popular brands need to do to be more effective in their efforts to serve-- not just "markets"-- but YOU personally?

Let us know...We value your insight.
