Recently we were exposed to Briz.com, a new online community designed to help small business connect with each other and with customers thus helping generate buzz (and business) for members. The concept is fascinating, as it combines popular social networking features with traditional business directory services. Best of all, its free!

The Buzz with Briz
A quick search of its business database shows a growing number of businesses based in the New York city (makes sense given that that is where the company's base is) and - not surprisingly- we even found some of the businessses in the directory to be clearly Hispanic owned.
One thing that we thought was compelling for businesses is that the site allows you post coupons, which is a huge plus for local businesses that are trying to generate demand. Equally good for members is that they can list themselves in terms of a promotion or key selling proposition, rather than by the traditional business name. We think ultimately this can generate more leads for the business. Briz offers two experiences in one site: one for the participating business and one for consumers. This is an interesting departure from the traditional B2B online directory approach (which by the way our site is based on) and so this provides a good opportunity for matchmaking.
Ultimately, the site's succcess will be a function of its ability to reach critical mass. We think it has a very good chance to the extent that it provides the means for consumers to "follow" its favorite businesses. By the way, we also liked its clean, simple interface, which of course is always a good think. We liked Briz.com and think that you will too. |
